He will play a key role should Pakatan Harapan win power from PAS, says a PPBM source.
PETALING JAYA: PPBM vice-president Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman is expected to contest a state seat in Kelantan despite earlier speculation that he would be fielded in a parliamentary constituency, a party source said.
“The former Election Commission chief will play a key role should Pakatan Harapan (PH) wrest power from PAS,” said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The source said Rashid, who is Kota Baru PPBM division chief, will likely contest the Kota Lama seat, which is in the Kota Baru parliamentary constituency.
The PAS stronghold is currently held by Kelantan state executive councillor Anuar Tan Abdullah.
Kota Lama is the only mixed seat in the state with Malays making up 63% of voters and Chinese 34%.
PH component parties PPBM, PKR and Amanah are expected to be involved in three-cornered fights in all the 45 state seats with PAS and Barisan Nasional candidates in Kelantan. - FMT
