File report against cops, MACC or apologise – DAP MP dares Rizalman

A DAP lawmaker has called on Bandar Tun Razak Umno division chief Rizalman Mokhtar to file a police report against the police and MACC over the allegation that he was a victim of sabotage with regard to testing positive for methamphetamine following a raid on a nightclub in Kuala Lumpur.
Lim Lip Eng said this indicated that the urine sample taken from Rizalman and his friends could have been tampered with.
Should he fail to file a police report, the Segambut MP said the Umno man must apologise to the police and MACC for making such a claim.
Lim, who is a lawyer, pointed out that Rizalman's case has also set a precedent.
"Rizalman's less than 24-hour detention can be a precedent in Malaysia which lawyers can refer to in court to apply for their clients who are suspected of drug abuse to be released early.
"Prior to Rizalman being released so soon despite his urine sample testing positive for drugs, the police would usually apply for a remand order until the chemist's report is completed.
"Following this, the suspect is brought to court if the chemist report confirms positive for drugs. This process alone can see a suspect held in the police lock-up for a week.
"Or the police would remand the suspect for several days until investigations into the suspect's supplier is completed," he added in a media statement this afternoon.
Lim said he does not blame the police for releasing Rizalman (photo) so soon as there must have been instructions from above.
However, he urged Bukit Aman to reveal tho ordered his release as this is far from normal police procedure.
"Is Rizalman the only suspect who was released in less than 24 hours or were his friends released as well?" he asked.
Lim also suggested that Bukit Aman air the video of the nightclub raid in which Rizalman was detained on TV3 similar to other raids.
"At least, this would give the impression that the police treat all suspects in the same manner," he added.
Rizalman, who is a potential candidate for the upcoming general election, was arrested at the entertainment outlet in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday night. - Mkini
