GE14 | Former TV3 broadcast journalist Mohd Khaidir Ahmad, who is now actively involved in an environmental NGO, today announced he is contesting in the 14th general election as an independent candidate.
Mohd Khaidir, 56, who is president of Perikatan Pencinta Alam Malaysia (Alam), said he would contest the Temerloh parliamentary seat and a state seat within the constituency in Pahang. The state constituencies of Mentakab, Lanchang and Kuala Semantan are within the Temerloh parliamentary constituency.
“The decision (to contest) was made after thinking deeply about championing environmental issues. I decided to be an independent candidate because there is yet a political party bold enough to voice out on environmental issues in the Dewan Rakyat or state legislative assemblies.
“I chose to contest the Temerloh parliamentary seat but I am considering whether to also stand in the Lanchang or Kuala Semantan state constituency. I had wanted to contest Kuala Semantan but the review of electoral boundaries has shifted my residential address to Lanchang,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Mohd Khaidir had uploaded a post on his Facebook account stating that he had collected the nomination forms at the Election Commision office in Kuantan to contest a parliamentary seat and a state seat.
