Singapore police say it is an offence to hold public assemblies without a permit.
PETALING JAYA: Singapore police have warned Malaysians not to bring their political causes into the island city-state.
In a statement on Facebook, they said they were aware of calls, including by Geneva-based NGO Global Bersih, encouraging overseas Malaysians to support political activities related to the coming 14th general election (GE14).
“Foreigners visiting, working or living in Singapore should not use Singapore as a platform to further their political causes.
“Foreigners must abide by our laws. Public assemblies in Singapore are regulated under the Public Order Act, and organising or participating in a public assembly without a police permit is illegal,” the statement said.
It added that the police would not grant any permit for assemblies organised by or involving non-Singaporeans for political or election campaigning.
It said action would be taken against those who organised or participated in an unlawful public assembly.
“Those who break the law will be dealt with firmly, and this may include termination of visas or work passes where applicable.” - Mkini
