Kedah BN filed has a police report over rotten eggs thrown at the stage of a ceramah at Padang Awam Taman Derga Jaya in Alor Setar.
According to Umno Online, Kedah BN secretary Md Rozai Shaifian said the incident is believed to have occurred in the wee hours of the morning.
“Due to the incident, the carpet on the stage had to be replaced.
“Kedah Umno views this incident as an attempt to sabotage the programme. However, it has not dampened the spirit of our party workers.
“In fact, the sabotage attempt does not affect the ceramah which will proceed as planned,” he added.
The report was filed by Kedah Umno information secretary Sohaimi Zainal Abidin with the Kotar Setar district police headquarters this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Md Rozai also urged the party machinery to tighten security at various locations.
“I have asked for tighter security at the party's office, operations centre and other places to avoid any attempts of sabotage by certain quarters,” he said.
Tonight's ceramah is titled “Menolak Pakatan Hipokrasi” (rejecting the pact of hypocrites). Those slated to attend are caretaker menteri besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah and other leaders.
Kedah is the home state of Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad. His son Mukhriz was the former menteri besar before he was forced to relinquish his post and was succeeded by Ahmad Bashah.
Harapan is seeking to capture the state in the coming general election. In 2008, Kedah fell to Harapan's predecessor Pakatan Rakyat but BN retook the state in the 2013 national polls. - Mkini
