Najib says compelled to ‘correct facts’ on problems caused by fault-finding ex-PM

Instead, the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman said the fault lies with the ex-government leader who had recently pointed his finger at MIC, ostensibly to detract from his own leadership flaws.

Speaking at the launch of Amanah Saham 1 Malaysia’s (AS1M) investment plan aimed at helping the ethnic Indian community’s bottom 40 per cent of wage earners here today, Najib said he felt compelled to right the wrong perception that the minority community might have of being marginalised by the ruling BN.

“Not that I want to claim the credit, but when the ex-prime minister who ruled for 22 years blamed MIC leaders for the problems faced by Indians, I felt the need to correct his facts,” he said in his speech without naming the ex-prime minister.

However, Malaysia has only had one prime minister in office for 22 years from 1981 to 2003, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Najib noted the many protracted problems facing Indian Malaysians ranged from citizenship issues to education due to the lack of funding for Tamil language schools and even the intake of its people for the civil service.
