Acting Pagoh Umno chief Ismail Mohamed has mowed down Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin's claim that BN had sabotaged a road leading to a ceramah which will feature Dr Mahathir Mohamad tonight.
Ismail, who was once Muhyiddin's deputy in the Pagoh Umno division, said works to fix the road had nothing to do with the talk and neither had Pagoh BN ever disrupted any Pakatan Harapan activities.
"The opposition is trying to create a provocation. If their supporters want to come, no matter what the obstacles, they will come. If they don't want to come, don't blame others.
"We have never disrupted opposition programmes in Pagoh. We want to campaign in harmony by respecting each other political ideologies," Ismail told Malaysiakini.
Muhyiddin had earlier today claimed that the Public Works Department (PWD) had purposely dug up the Panchor-Grisek road to disrupt traffic heading towards the Mahathir ceramah tonight.
He claimed that prior to today, the road had always been in good condition.
However, a local met near one stretch of the Panchor-Grisek road that was undergoing repairs told Malaysiakini the road had been damaged for some time.
"This road has been damaged for a long time, there are always holes and cars get damaged because of it," the villager said on condition of anonymity.
She added the PWD had appointed a private contractor to help maintain the road.
Malaysiakini found that a one-kilometre stretch of the road was in poor condition and road repair machinery had been parked by the side.
The damaged stretch of road is some two kilometres from the venue of the ceramah in Kampung Sri Tanjung, Pagoh tonight. -Mkini
