Penang assembly to be dissolved tomorrow

The Penang state legislative assembly will officially be dissolved tomorrow to pave way for the 14th general election, which is expected to be held in May.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng made the announcement in George Town today, accompanied by MPs and state assemblypersons for Penang.
"All the state executive councillors, including me, the state secretary, the state financial officer and the state legal officer wish to thank all Penangites for giving us a chance to lead Penang and to serve the rakyat," said Lim.
Lim said today's state executive meeting was the last for this term, the 215th since May 5, 2013.
Lim said he has obtained the consent of Penang Governor Abdul Rahman Abbas to dissolve the state assembly tomorrow.
"An official letter will be sent to the state assembly speaker Law Choo Kiang by state secretary Farizan Darus today for the dissolution tomorrow," Lim said.
This follows Prime Minister Najib Razak's announcement of Parliament being dissolved on Saturday.
"The PM sent us a letter to request us to dissolve the state assembly so that elections for states and Parliament can be carried out simultaneously," said Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general.
Replying to questions from reporters, Lim said Penang state excos members will return the keys to their official cars on Wednesday.
"We have basically become a caretaker government, so we will not be making any policy decisions. Whatever decisions we make will be administrative," Lim said.
Perak, T'ganu assemblies dissolved
The state legislative assemblies of Perak and Terengganu were also dissolved today, according to Bernama.
In Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah announced the dissolution of the 13th legislative assembly at a ceremony at the Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar.
The sultan called on all political parties and their leaders to exercise responsibility at all times, and prioritise security, public order and solidarity.
In Terengganu, Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said the dissolution of the state assembly was consented by state's ruler, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, after he had an audience with the latter at the Istana Syarqiyyah in Kuala Terengganu.
“With the dissolution, the people are empowered to choose the government that they want,” Razif told a press conference at Wisma Darul Iman. - Mkini
