State PH leaders say matter is resolved following recent criticism by a DAP state rep on Miri voters wanting change.
KUCHING: Sarawak PKR has confirmed that its sole MP, Dr Michael Teo, will be defending his Miri seat.
Last Monday, it was reported that Teo’s fate was still undecided after a state DAP leader said that he would be replaced.
DAP’s Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei said state Pakatan Harapan leaders would discuss Teo’s fate, adding that Miri voters wanted a replacement.
Wong’s remarks did not go down well with state PKR chief Baru Bian, who brushed aside the comments, saying it was DAP’s view.
Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen told FMT today that the matter has been resolved.
He said Wong has also apologised for his remarks which was deemed as unfriendly to an ally.
Chong explained that Miri was a PKR seat and it was up to the party to field a winnable candidate.
“If PKR thinks that the incumbent is their best choice, DAP will fully support him in the elections.
“What is most crucial is for PKR to win Miri for PH and DAP will go all out to secure victory for Dr Teo,” he said.
Teo won the Miri seat in the 2013 general elections when he defeated SUPP secretary-general Sebastian Ting by 1,992 votes. - FMT
