Police confirm Rizalman tested negative for drugs

Police have confirmed that Bandar Tun Razak Umno division chief Rizalman Mokhtar’s urine sample has tested negative for drugs.

Although the initial test during the Umno leader's arrest found him testing positive for methamphetamine, Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim said today that Rizalman’s urine sample had been cleared by the pathology unit of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

“As the case had attracted public attention and involved a well-known person, police had asked HKL to expedite the test on Rizalman’s urine sample.

“Further tests by HKL’s pathology unit found that the urine sample tested negative for drugs,” he told reporters in a WhatsApp message.

Mazlan confirmed that the case was referred to the state prosecution director, and that the latter instructed that no further action would be taken against Rizalman.

The KL police chief also refuted Rizalman’s claims of entrapment, stressing that the the investigation has been conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

"Everything was conducted based on standard operating procedures,” he said, adding that the letter on the case has also been sent to the Umno leader.

In an immediate reaction, Rizalman thanked the police and MACC for their speedy investigations, and requested all parties to stop the "attacks and slander" against him on social media.

He also expressed his hope that with the test coming back negative, his reputation, as well as that of his family and Umno-BN, would be restored.

In the early hours of Monday, Rizalman was nabbed along with nine others at a karaoke centre in Kuala Lumpur All had initially tested positive for methamphetamine use.

However, the Umno leader denied taking drugs, and said that the urine test was a trap to tarnish his image, as well as ruin his chances of contesting the Bandar Tun Razakparliamentary seat in the coming polls.
