Police source: It was MACC that roped us into Rizalman drug bust

The arrest of Bandar Tun Razak Umno division chief Rizalman Mokhtar earlier this week was initiated by an MACC operation, a police source said today.

A high-ranking police source told Malaysiakini that the police only got involved after the graft busters asked for the assistance of the men in blue.

"We, the police, were asked by the MACC to assist and based on their information, we aided in a professional manner.

"We also followed the standard operating procedure in conducting the urine test," the source said.

Rizalman was nabbed along with 10 others at a karaoke centre in Kuala Lumpur in the wee hours of Monday.

Subsequent drug tests had found Rizalman and all others in his party positive for methamphetamine use.

However, Rizalman said he does not take drugs and believes the results of the urine test to be a trap to tarnish his image, as well as his chance of contesting the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat in the coming general election.

He had also questioned why the MACC was so keen on the results of his urine test.

In a briefing to his Umno division leaders, Rizalman had said that even police found it unusual that the MACC held watch over the urine tests.

"Even the police said this has never happened before. It was difficult to take a leak.

"When my result came back positive, they (MACC personnel) left. All five of them," he said.

Attempts by Malaysiakini to contact the MACC today on this matter have so far been unsuccessful. - Mkini
