Road collapses near Institut Aminuddin Baki Genting Highlands

BENTONG: Residents of Institut Aminuddin Baki (IAB) hostel in Genting Highlands were shocked after hearing a loud rumbling sound before an entire stretch of road near their hostel collapsed early this morning.

The incident happened about 1.30am leading to the closure of the entire stretch. No one was reported hurt in the road collapse, which affected a stretch of about 30-metres along the busy road.

Bentong Civil Defence Force officer, Leftenan Mohd Zulkhairi Adek Awang said the road stretch which collapsed was from the main road leading to the hostel at Menara IAB of the institute.

He said the cause of the collapse was still being investigated and electrical supply to the area had been temporarily disconnected as they were snapped cables which were hanging loose.

“The landslip also damaged some structures in the area,” he said, adding the weather was reported to be fine when the incident happened.

Meanwhile, Pahang Fire and Rescue Services department deputy director Mohd Sani Harun said checks were ongoing in the area to determining the cause of the road collapse.

He said the entire stretch had been closed to all traffic and all residents of a building in the area had also been ordered to evacuate.
