Selangor BN questions Azmin's silence over Splash claims

Selangor BN today questioned incumbent menteri besar Azmin Ali’s silence over Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash)’s claim against Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) amounting to RM4.22 billion, recently.
Selangor BN chairperson Noh Omar said Azmin's silence was unacceptable as the people have the right to know whether the state government was experiencing a financial crisis due to the mismanagement of the state’s and Syabas’ finances.
“The Selangor government is currently at risk of bankruptcy as the state’s reserves are only RM3 billion while Splash's claim filed against Syabas is RM4.22 billion,” said Noh Omar, who is also the incumbent urban wellbeing, housing and local government minister.
He said this to reporters after handing over keys to three houses worth RM40,000 each, which were rebuilt after being destroyed in a fire in March last year, through the National Blue Ocean Strategy under the "My Beautiful Neighbourhood" programme in Taman Gemilang in Dengkil today.
Noh, who is also Selangor Federal Action Council chairperson, said that Splash had previously disclosed that after the Selangor state government took over 100 percent of Syabas in 2015, the state government only paid 36 percent of the total outstanding Splash bills.
He explained that, as this was a legal claim for unpaid bills, the chances of Splash winning the lawsuit against Syabas was high.
Last Monday, Splash, a 40 percent subsidiary of Gamuda Bhd, served a writ, together with a statement of claim to Syabas to claim all outstanding payments owed by Syabas which amounted to RM4.22 billion.
