GE14 | Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil might be sitting out of the general election for the second time in a row.
According to Bernama, Shahrizat said she will not offer herself to be a BN candidate, but would consider it if Umno president Najib Abdul Razak wanted her to.
"For me, my main task and responsibility are to ensure the Wanita BN machinery is ready because this is my top priority.
"Not being a candidate is not my priority even though we regularly hold discussions with the (caretaker) prime minister.
"What's important is that we can deliver a strong and effective machinery that brings a huge victory to the BN," she said.
Shahrizat was a three-term Lembah Pantai MP before she was defeated by PKR's Nurul Izzah Anwar in 2008.
Should she sit out of the election this year, she will likely be the only women's wing head of large BN parties - Umno, MCA, Gerakan, MIC, PBB and PBS - to do so.
Previously, Malaysiakini reported that Shahrizat was Umno's chosen candidate for the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat after confirming the matter with several sources.
Three days ago, Shahrizat wrote on her Facebook page that she will not accept an offer to stand as a candidate there, although she believed BN's victory was assured. - Mkini
