That’s history now, says Zahid on Dr M’s service in Langkawi

GE14 | Caretaker deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged Langkawi residents not to be taken in by Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s election bid there, saying that the former premier’s contributions to the island have become history.
Instead, he said it was the BN government, under caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and the incumbent MP Nawawi Ahmad, that has continued the development agenda in Langkawi, a trend he feared would be disrupted if someone else is elected instead.
"We are open-minded and welcome to anyone who wants to contest, but I am confident that the people in Langkawi are aware of the government's efforts and reforms there such as on Pulau Tuba and improvements to some tourism jetties.
"Development under the leadership of the (caretaker) prime minister will continue... but if others are chosen, I fear Langkawi cannot be developed, I am sure the people of Langkawi know which option is best," he was quoted as saying in a Bernama report today.
Zahid further urged older voters not to be swayed by the political leanings of their children who had become the breadwinners in the families causing them to vote against “their hearts’ desire”, or by “political bats” who only fly in during the election season.
"This time, support the members of parliament and the elected representatives for the state assembly constituencies who are the same as the administration. Change your taste by returning to us and more facilities will be given.
"Enough... do not be influenced by ‘political bats’ who come only during the fruit season. Our representatives, whether in the parliament or the state legislative assembly, serve without seasons, this is our position in providing the best service," he said.
Mahathir, who is also Pakatan Harapan chairperson, was officially announced as the opposition candidate for the Langkawi parliamentary seat in next month’s polls.  - Mkini
