Voters registered in 2018 not eligible to vote in GE14

GE14 | Those who registered as voters in 2018 will not be eligible to vote in the upcoming 14th general election on May 9, according to the Election Commission.
“The electoral roll which will be used for GE14 is up to the fourth quarter of 2017 (Q4 2017).
“The electoral roll consists of 14,940,624 registered voters,” Hashim told a press conference at the commission’s headquarters in Putrajaya today.
An EC spokesperson later confirmed with Malaysiakini that this means those who registered as voters this year will not be able to vote in GE14.
“This is because (the electoral roll for) the first quarter of 2018 has not been gazetted yet.
“The public display process and the objections have also not been carried out,” the spokesperson explained.
The electoral roll will go for sale on April 16, 2018.
Voters can also check their voting status on the EC website, through the mobile application MySPR Semak, by calling 03-88927018 or by texting 15888, starting April 16.
Hashim had earlier announced in the press conference that polling day will fall on Wednesday, May 9.
The nomination of candidates will take place on April 28, with the campaigning period fixed for 11 days.
