YOURSAY | ‘The present crop of leaders can’t hold candle to Rafidah or Rais Yatim.’
Trueglitter: It is utterly inconceivable that the much-tainted and severely-ridiculed Shahrizat Abdul Jalil should have the gall to now emerge with her unwarranted criticism against former international trade and industries minister Rafidah Aziz for the latter exercising her democratic right to admonish those allegedly corrupt Umno/BN leaders who have brazenly impoverished and brought unimaginable shame to the nation and its citizens.
Shahrizat should be cowering in shame under the weight of her abject dejection from the thinking populace as no amount of self-created din or insensitive remarks from her will ever serve to deflect the vitriolic public condemnations levelled at her and her family members for the alleged scandal involving the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC), amounting in the sum of RM250 million which has yet to be resolved.
The much-emboldened Shahrizat has been perceived to enjoy a supportive connectivity with the seemingly untouchable Najib Razak for reasons best known to themselves, but however closed that said bond may appear, the embattled Najib is seen not been able to secure the opportunity for her to contest in the parliamentary seat of Bandar Tun Razak due to the insurmountable weight of condemnations and apparent rejection from would-be voters of the said constituency.
Gerard Lourdesamy: Well said, Rafidah. Unfortunately, your sage-like advice is entirely wasted on Shahrizat.
She is so thick-skinned that she can still show her face in public without repaying the RM250 million that is still owed by her family to the rakyat.
Cogito Ergo Sum: Yes, excellent response. I think there may be a mutiny within the ranks of Umno after 16 members challenged the party’s legitimacy. There may be others backing them and the voices of dissent may grow louder by the day.
Najib should start negotiating an exit strategy to save the party and himself. But he has made too many enemies within Malaysia and abroad to be really safe.
And he surrounded himself with semi-literate yes men and women, incapable of advising him correctly. Basically, he has painted himself and Umno into a corner. And his circle of friends and the corner is getting smaller by the day.
Goldee: Shahrizat, say whatever you like, Rafidah had contributed to the country more than most people, including you.
Don't be like a broken record and keep repeating the same old line. Rafidah is concerned about the country whereas you only care about your position.
Can we also say if without Rafidah's contributions the country, the economy of the country won't be what it was before?
Shahrizat, can we hear from you what contributions you have done for the country? All that we know is the Cowgate scandal involving your family.
Cogito Ergo Sum: The present crop of leaders can’t hold a candle to Rafidah or former minister Rais Yatim. It is they who made the party. Not the other way around.
Umno/BN was great because of such great personalities. Today, you are an illegal party because you failed in your simple fiduciary duties.
You failed to hold elections because you were afraid your top echelons would not even get elected to key posts.
Quigonbond: Shahrizat, simple answer is they would have retired with their conscience clear, and acceptance that in an objective and fair world, they cannot hold on to power and position forever.
And there would have been within BN rank-and-file younger, more idealistic professionals, fighting on policy front with Pakatan Harapan politicians, sometimes as government, sometimes as opposition, in a healthy democracy.
Myviews: "Who in Umno does not have an issue?" Wonder who quoted this? No prizes for the correct answer.
Ravinder: Where is the Registrar of Societies (ROS)? Please come out and show us the provision in the law that empowered you to grant a second extension of 18 months to Umno.
Your authority and your powers are spelt out under the law. You cannot act outside of the law. You cannot legalise whatever that Umno does or does not do if it is inconsistent with Umno's own constitution.
Since you approved the second extension which Umno's constitution does not provide for, you must show your clean hands or be deemed to be acting at the beck and call of Umno.
Mosquitobrain: ROS cannot make itself a laughing stock to the world. It must apply the same set of rule that its director-general, Surayati Ibrahim, has applied to DAP and Bersatu to be seen as fair and just.
Nothing more, nothing less.
6th Generation Immigrant: Now herein lies the arrogance of Umno and its leaders, but the Umno minus Rais and Rafidah. We have yet to see any other Umno members come to their senses.
If Umno leaders do not solemnly observe, hold to and defend their own party constitution, how do we expect these so-called leaders, if and when elected, to solemnly observe, hold to and defend our Federal Constitution.
Again, if we take Rais and Rafidah to be true, fair and upholding nationalists, and they are the rakyat representing all creeds and races, how can Umno be telling them off and insulting them for statements made true and real.
Multiply this current episode by 100 folds, this today is a true picture of how the BN government is running the country - no rule of law and disregarding the voters who put them there in the first place. They are working for themselves.
Gerard Lourdesamy: Well said, Rais. People in Umno think that they are above the law and they can do as they please because they control the government, including the ROS and the Election Commission.
These people should be put out to pasture for good in GE14. They deserve it. They have lied, cheated and stolen long enough with the aid and assistance of their cronies, including some Chinese and Indians.
The police, MACC and the judiciary often turn the other way under intense pressure from the government.
Anonymous_b3cdcd05: Isn't it ironical? In Umno's case, the ROS allegedly rode roughshod over the constraints in the party constitution to grant it a second extension to hold its party polls.
In Bersatu's case, the ROS allegedly ignored the rightful enabling provisions in the party constitution to declared it illegal. And Surayati has coolly gone into hibernation.
Isn't there anything left that is sacred anymore under the Umno/BN regime? - Mkini
