Zahid: Time for BN to redeem pride in Kelantan

GE14 | Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the 14th general election will be the arena for BN to get back to its former glory especially by retaking Kelantan which has been under opposition rule for 27 years.
The Umno vice-president, who is also carrying out the duties of deputy president, said as such, the BN machinery must go the extra mile and convince the electorate that the coalition was sincere in wanting to serve the people of Kelantan.
"We (machinery) should not be doing it for money, not work because we are being paid to. This is the time and moment for us to redeem our pride and wash off our blackened faces after being the opposition for 27 years (in Kelantan).
"The is the opportune time. Enough of playing bridesmaid,” he said at a “Leader with the People” gathering at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Mengkebang in Kuala Krai today.
Present were International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed, who is also Kelantan BN chief, and Kuala Krai Umno head Ramzi Ab Rahman.
He said in the last general election (GE13), BN lost the Kuala Krai parliamentary seat and only won one out of four state seats under it.
“In GE13, we only lost by a majority of 2,043 votes for the Kuala Krai parliamentary seat.
“For the Mengkebang (state seat), we lost by 1,072 votes only. For the Guchil state seat, we lost by 442 votes only, for the Manik Urai state seat we only lost by 1,633 votes. We will wrest back (the state seats) and defend the Dabong state seat and increase the winning majority,” he said.
Zahid said among the recipe for BN to win the Kuala Krai parliamentary seat was by increasing the number of votes in the four state seats in the constituency.
Meanwhile, in a press conference after the event, he expressed his confidence of winning the Kuala Krai parliamentary seat and the four state seats in the constituency as it was proven that BN was a party that always kept its promises to the people.
He said this was proven with the construction of 1,115 units of new permanent houses (RKB) to victims of the 2014 floods, as well as the construction of the new Kuala Krai Hospital and several bridges for the people in the Kuala Krai parliamentary constituency.
"(Construction of the infrastructure) is not just a factor to secure victory for BN, but on the belief that the Kelantan people themselves should translate their support for BN because they have all the while been in darkness.
“The light at the end of the tunnel should be looked for and hopefully the dark lanes will be lit under a new leadership,” he said.
Earlier, Zahid approved an allocation of RM6.5 million which included RM1 million for the construction of five madrasah, costing RM200,000 each at five RKB settlements, namely Staponal, Sungai Durian, Manjor, Kemubu and Sungai Peria.
The remaining allocations included RM500,000 for non-governmental organisations involved in helping the 2014 flood victims, chronic patients and senior citizens (RM1 million), repair of dilapidated homes (RM2 million) and construction of a new bridge to link Rancangan Pemulihan Tanah (RPT) Temalir and Kampung Temalir Lama here (RM2 million).
He also presented house keys to 32 recipients of the Sungai Peria RKB homes.
