Political cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque has decried what he believes to be the theft of his cartoon lampooning caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Zulkiflee, better known as Zunar, singled out Facebook page Friends of Perdana Menterifor purportedly stealing the cartoon.
"(They) distorted, changed, edited and slandered. This is the lowest level of plagiarism.
"The authorities should charge them under the Anti-Fake News Act 2018.
"I will also make a police report, and a report with the Communications and Multimedia Commission," he said in a statement today.
Zunar said he would also discuss with his lawyer to consider initiating legal action against the owner of the Facebook account.
His original cartoon depicted what is believed to be Najib and his family members being pulled on top of a cart labelled ‘1MDB’.
The modified version posted by Friends of Perdana Menteri shows former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family members, also on top of a cart, but labelled '22 years'.
Zunar has been hit with sedition charges for cartoons that allegedly insulted Najib.
Apart from having copies of his books seized, he is also currently under a travel ban. - Mkini
