GE14 | Bersatu has appealed to Malaysians to come out in large numbers to cast their ballots in the 14th general election.
A posting on the party's Facebook page this afternoon said the voter turnout is still low compared to the 2013 general election.
“Guys! Please call all your friends who have not voted to come out and vote. We need 85 percent turnout to ensure BN is toppled. Please. Help us! S.O.S,” read the posting.
The Election Commission announced that voter turnout as of 3pm was at 69 percent.
Meanwhile, former Bersih chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan and PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar urged the EC to extend the voting period beyond 5pm due to the long queues at the polling centres.
This was in response to the EC denying there would be an extension in response to a question from an Astro Awani journalist.
“Actually EC should extend time to 6pm. They must accommodate voters not disenfranchise them.
“I believe EC has a discretion as everyone has a constitutional right to vote as long as they arrive by 5pm. But alternatively extend time. That's provided for,” Ambiga tweeted. -Mkini
