The group chief executive officer of Pos Malaysia has been appointed as chairperson of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for two years, effective Oct 1.
In a statement today, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said Al-Ishsal Ishak holds a Bachelor of Management (Honours) degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia and was a Japan Airlines scholar at Sophia University, Tokyo.
After completing his studies, he became an entrepreneur in the digital arena from 1994 until 2008, Gobind added.
Al-Ishsal later joined McCann Ericsson Worldgroup as its chief digital officer and then Baraka Tekecom as its chief executive officer.
He was also the senior vice-president of marketing and products at Malaysia Airlines Bhd; group head of ancillary income at AirAsia Group Bhd, and later held various senior positions in Tune Group.
He served in the capacity of managing director for Southeast Asia of ECO Capacity Exchange Ltd (London) as well as trainer and consultant of Airbus Group before joining Pos Malaysia Berhad as its group chief executive officer.
Al-Ishsal has also worked with the Malaysia Development Economy Corp (MDEC) and was a former member of the National Information Technology Council (NITC).
