Kit Siang foresees smooth Dr M-Anwar transition

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said he foresees a smooth transition between Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his designated successor Anwar Ibrahim in the future.
He added that this can happen if Pakatan Harapan leaders maintain a positive mindset and seek to resolve the differences between them as best as possible.
"If the four component Harapan parties, and their leaders, maintain a positive mindset of wanting the Harapan government and agenda to 'Save Malaysia' to succeed, and do everything possible to resolve the differences, conflicts and contradictions which arise - I believe Harapan is in Malaysia to stay, not just for one general election but for several general elections.
"(This is because) the re-set of nation-building policies to build a New Malaysia which is a top world-class nation in various fields of human endeavour would require the efforts and labours of patriotic Malaysians in one decade or even two.
"In such a context, despite the worst trickeries and stratagems from the Umno-BN strategists and cybertroopers, I do not expect any hitches to Harapan's plan for Mahathir and Anwar to be seventh and eighth prime minister of Malaysia respectively," Lim told students at the University of Otago, New Zealand last night.
Mahathir has repeatedly said that Anwar would succeed him as per Harapan's agreement at a congress early this year.
There is no timeline for the transition with Anwar saying he is in no rush.
Anwar will, however, make a bid to return to Parliament through the Port Dickson by-election which will take place next month.

Meanwhile, Lim said despite efforts by Umno to break up Harapan, it is their party that is imploding first.
He was referring to the move by five MPs who quit Umno, the latest being former ministers Mustapa Mohamed and Anifah Aman. -Mkini
