MACC nabs two men over suspected money politics in PKR polls

The MACC has detained two men suspected of involvement in money politics in the ongoing PKR election at the branch level in Kedah.
According to a well-placed source, the duo had asked for a bribe of RM20,000 from an aspiring contender in the party election.
The suspects had told the man that they had to drop his name from the list of candidates due to an undisclosed reason, but could still retain his candidacy if he paid up.
The source said the first 48-year-old suspect was detained at 12.20pm yesterday at a restaurant in Alor Setar, while the second suspect aged 46 was arrested at the Pendang toll plaza at 3.25pm the same day.
The source added following their arrest, the MACC found and seized RM10,000 from both suspects.
Meanwhile, Kedah MACC chief Mohd Fauzi Mohamad when contacted, confirmed the arrests.
"Both suspects will be brought to the Alor Setar Magistrates’ Court for remand.
"The investigation is being conducted under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009," he said.
Section 16(a)(A) concerns the corrupt soliciting or receiving of gratification as inducement or reward for any matter of transaction. - Mkini
