PD POLLS | PAS will contest in the Port Dickson by-election, party president Abdul Hadi Awang announced today.
According to him, the decision was made during a central committee meeting in Marang, Terengganu, tonight.
"After we got information from the PAS election committee and the Negeri Sembilan PAS commissioner, we decided to contest in Port Dickson.
"We will announce the candidate in Port Dickson tomorrow night," Hadi said in a press conference, which was broadcast live in PAS' Facebook page.
Also present at the press conference were Hadi's deputy Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, as well as other senior party leaders.
The Port Dickson seat fell vacant after its incumbent Danyal Balagopal Abdullah resigned to pave way for PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim's return to Parliament.
PAS decided to field a candidate in the parliamentary seat after Umno chose to boycott it.
Meanwhile, asked about the candidate to be fielded by PAS in Port Dickson, Hadi said it would be someone who can "match" Anwar.
"We want to revive democracy, PAS is a party that celebrates democracy. We don't want the rakyat to be deprived of the chance to choose," he said.
"We don't want to waste it without doing any work, so we work. At least (the by-election) can be a training ground for our party workers, and gauging the response from all parties, it is not impossible to win," he added. - Mkini
