KUALA LUMPUR: PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin says Mustapa Mohamed’s decision to leave Umno comes as no surprise as the Jeli MP knew that Umno was rotten and fractured beyond repair.
He said the damage done by former Umno president Najib Razak should open the hearts of leaders to leave the party.
“Although he should have made the move much earlier, it is still not too late.
“I am confident that as an experienced politician, Mustapa thought deeply about leaving Umno. He made a right and wise decision,” Muhyiddin said in a Facebook post.
Muhyiddin, who is also home minister, said he hoped that Mustapa would continue to contribute to the country’s development.
Mustapa, better known as Tok Pa, announced on Tuesday that he was quitting Umno after more than 40 years with the party. He said its direction was not in line with his principles. -FMT
