Bersatu Youth: Focus on underprivileged Malays, not the rich

BERSATU AGM | Delegates at Bersatu Youth's closed-door debate today deliberated on the need for policies to help underprivileged Malays instead of the rich.
In his summary of the debate, Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said delegates spoke about the policies needed to aid those in the bottom 40 percent (B40) income category.
"As an example, there is no focus on the B40 in terms of housing, with discounts still given to Malays who have incomes or assets over RM1 million.
"Discounts should be best allocated to the Malays from the B40 community, and that figure is quite large," he told a press conference after the close of the debates.
Syed Saddiq also backed Srikandi Bersatu's call for Mara Junior Science colleges (MRSM) to focus on the B40 category.
Ismail Sabri Yaakob, then-minister in charge of Mara, claimed last year that 60 percent of those seeking placement in MRSM colleges were from middle- or upper-income families.
Syed Saddiq noted that delegates also spoke about how youths should be given roles as village chiefs, as well as sit on local government councils and on GLC boards to allow them to participate in charting the nation's future.
Other topics discussed included the future of work in the country, as well as the need for soft skills training and mastery of the English language. - Mkini
