Guan Eng signals DAP not reclaiming Tanjung Piai from Bersatu

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has signalled that DAP will not be reclaiming Tanjung Piai from Bersatu.
When asked which Pakatan Harapan party should contest the seat, he responded: "Tanjung Piai has nothing to do with DAP".
"Tanjung Piai is Bersatu's, not DAP, Bersatu. Let us bersatu (unite) for victory," he added.
The Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat in Johor fell vacant following the death of its incumbent, former deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, on Saturday.

Prior to last year, the seat had traditionally been contested by DAP.
Meanwhile for BN, the seat had belonged to MCA,
However, this appears to be subject to change now.
Johor BN chief Hasni Mohammad was cited by Utusan Malaysia as saying that seats in constituencies don't belong to just one party as it depends on the current situation.
On Tanjung Piai itself, Hasni said the state BN was open to any suggestions on who to field.
"We are open to any suggestions and will look at the current situation and needs based on the understanding of those involved, and the factors that would contribute to reaching a decision (on the candidate).
"There is no permanent consensus for the seat," he said.
In GE14, Farid defeated MCA two-term incumbent Wee Jeck Seng with a slim majority of 524 votes.
Farid bagged 21,255 votes against Wee's 20,731. The other candidate was PAS' Nordin Othman with 2,962 votes. - Mkini
