KUALA LUMPUR: The three men, wanted by police for allegedly making seditious and racial comments in social media over Monday's amok incident in Penang, have been arrested.
Bukit Aman CID deputy director Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim said the suspects, aged 28,32 and 42, were detained in Penang and Kedah, between 1.15pm on Thursday (Sept 26) and 12.27am on Friday (Sept 27).
"Their arrests came following three police reports lodged on the matter.
"The 32-year-old was detained in Butterworth. He is jobless and the owner of the Dun Lunas Facebook account," he told a press conference in Bukit Aman on Friday (Sept 27).
DCP Mohd Dzuraidi said the second suspect was picked up in Lunas, Kedah.
"The 42-year-old uses the 'Zulkifli Mohd Kadir' Facebook account to make and share seditious comments.
"The last suspect, aged 28, was detained in Kuala Muda, Kedah," he said, adding that police seized their mobile phones to assist in investigations.
On Thursday (Sept 26), police said they were tracking down the three suspects for allegedly making sensitive and seditious statements on social media in connection with the amok incident.
All three men will be investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
During the incident, a factory worker was shot dead by police after he ran amok and slashed two of his colleagues inside the factory production compound.
One of the victims, a woman, died from her injuries while the other is in stable condition. - Star
