Young woman dies of cancer, leaving behind a note alleging long-term abuses by parents

AFTER a 22-year-old Malaysian woman named Wang Qiuyue – passed away from cancer last Sunday (Jan 18), a note she left behind – uploaded on Facebook by her sister – describes long-term abuse allegedly inflicted by her father and stepmother.

The post includes a photo of Wang in her hospital bed, holding up the letter addressed to her father. In it, Wang questioned her father’s love for her, adding that her father’s attitude changed after he remarried.

“You knew all of this. You only watched quietly but didn’t say anything,” she wrote. “I hope you treat your children well after I leave.”

The last phrase resonated with accusations that her stepmother had “cursed (her) to die quickly”.

She alleged enduring physical and mental abuse every day after returning home to Sibu following treatment in Kuala Lumpur. The abuses reportedly involved her stepmother, who would not allow the siblings to use basic facilities like the bathroom and kitchen in the house.

Malaysian police said the woman had lodged a report last December alleging neglect and abuse by her family since 2013. Sibu police are investigating the case under the Child Act, according to China Press.

The sister explained that the letter, written by Wang (the cancer patient), was shared on social media “according to her last wishes”.

Wang’s sister also made a separate Facebook post on Thursday (Jan 23). In the post, she added photos and videos from Wang’s phone.

“I have decided to make this information public, not for hype, not for emotional vent, but for everyone to understand. Every experience written in my sister’s letter is not an empty allegation but is supported by real background and specific events,” the sister wrote.

One image captures a notice allegedly posted by the stepmother, instructing Wang not to use the bathroom, as cited in Wang’s letter. Another video appears to show the stepmother forcing open the lock to Wang’s bedroom and rummaging through her personal items. —  Focus Malaysia
