The Prime Minister’s Office says he will serve for a two-year term.

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said Tengku Zafrul will serve in the post for two years.
“The prime minister expresses hope that Tengku Zafrul will carry out this responsibility diligently and faithfully, for the prosperity of the nation and the well-being of the people,” it said.
It also said that the appointment is to fill the vacancy left following the resignation of Shamsul Iskandar Akin as the prime minister’s senior political secretary in November last year.
Shamsul, who was appointed to the post in December 2022, is standing trial on charges of accepting bribes from controversial businessman Albert Tei as an inducement to assist companies linked to Tei in securing approval for mineral exploration licences in Sabah.
Tengku Zafrul, a former investment, trade and industry minister, is currently the Malaysian Investment Development Authority chairman.
He is also the president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia.
He was first appointed as a senator in March 2020 when he became the finance minister in Muhyiddin Yassin’s Cabinet.
He stepped down to contest the 15th general election for Umno but was defeated. - FMT
