Varsity to decide on status of student charged with defiling Quran

 Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah vice-chancellor says this will depend on the outcome of its disciplinary proceedings.

 The university student who was charged with desecrating the Quran yesterday will know next week if he will be expelled.

Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah vice-chancellor Yatimah Alias said a decision would be made following the outcome of its disciplinary proceedings, Bernama reported.

“The disciplinary proceedings are being carried out in accordance with the Universities and University Colleges (UMPSA) (Student Discipline) Rules 2024 and the penalties include expulsion if the student is found guilty,” she was quoted as saying.

The student at the centre of the controversy, S Vikneswaran, claimed trial to defiling a copy of the Quran by stepping on it at the Kuantan sessions court yesterday.

He also claimed trial to the improper use of network facilities by uploading a picture of himself stepping on the Quran on social media. - FMT
