MARAN: A routine water supply mission turned into an impromptu firefighting effort when a Pengurusan Air Pahang Bhd (Paip) water tanker crew spotted a blazing car and stepped in to assist yesterday.
The crew acted swiftly, rolling out a hose to contain the flames beneath the vehicle and extinguish the black smoke from the engine compartment.
A 54-second video of the incident shared on Paip's Facebook page under the caption 'unexpected moments' showed the team assisting at the scene along with some passersby.
"Paip's water tanker was en route to deliver water to consumers affected by supply disruptions when the crew noticed thick black smoke from a burning car near the Maran Paip command centre.
"Without waiting for instructions or considering the risks, they immediately used the water in the tanker to control the situation, preventing the fire from intensifying," read the caption accompanying the video.
The post added that in such situations, every drop of water is not merely a supply but can become a lifesaver.
It is understood that the car driver managed to escape unhurt in the incident, which occurred along a dual-carriageway.
The video has since garnered more than 55,000 views, with many praising the Paip team for their quick response and willingness to go beyond their duties.
Several Facebook users expressed gratitude to the team for stepping in to douse the fire, while others noted that despite occasional water supply issues, the swift action had won public appreciation during a moment of crisis. - NST
