The Kuala Lumpur High Court has dismissed Bloomberg (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd’s application to strike out a billion-ringgit libel suit filed by Bestinet Sdn Bhd and its founder, Aminul Islam Abdul Nor.
The Edge reported that judge Roslan Mat Nor, in his decision yesterday, said the subject of the suit, Bloomberg’s report titled “Everyone gets a cut, and migrant workers pay a price”, needs further evaluation at the trial stage.
The matter cannot be decided summarily based on affidavits, Roslan said, and ordered RM5,000 costs to be paid to the plaintiffs.
Apart from Bloomberg, other defendants are Malaysiakini, The Edge Communications Sdn Bhd (publisher of The Edge), MNow Media Sdn Bhd (publisher of MalaysiaNow), and Norhafizan Muhamad and Nur Azwan Nusi (owners of a partnership that operates Harapan Daily).

Former MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya, former economy minister Rafizi Ramli and content creator Iswardy Morni, who runs “YB Youtube Channel”, were also named as defendants.
Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir has formally accepted and proclaimed Faris Johari as the new Sungai Ujong undang - with Datuk Kelana Petra’s title - during a ceremony at Istana Besar Menanti this morning.
The New Straits Times reported that Tuanku Muhriz, during the audience, had welcomed Faris’ pledge of loyalty and expected him to honour his promises.

A car with three passengers skidded, crashed and burst into flames at the Duke highway heading towards Jalan Kuching earlier today, in which two individuals were burnt to death, and one survived.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Fadzlil Jamaludin said firefighters were called to the scene at 5.20am and, upon arrival, found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
The department and the police are investigating the cause of the accident and the fire. - Mkini
