A business owner in Kedah says he sells more than a tonne of durian every day, with some varieties going for as little as RM1 a fruit, and Musang King for RM10 a kg.

Business owner Izhar Ibrahim, 27, said he sells more than a tonne of durian daily, for as little as RM1 per fruit, to allow those with limited means the opportunity to enjoy the king of fruits.
He said various types of durian are available, including durian kampung, IOI, Udang Merah, D24 and Musang King varieties, in a range of grades and sizes.
“I started this promotion last week as a gesture of appreciation to customers and to give those who are less well-off or have large families the chance to enjoy durian to their hearts’ content.
“Although the price is as little as RM1 per fruit, the quality is still good and the flesh is in good condition. The only difference is that the fruits are smaller. So far, customers are very satisfied and many have returned to buy more,” he said at Kedai Durian Maiz in Kampung Bukit Tunggal.
Izhar said people begin queuing as early as 8am to seize the opportunity to buy durian at very low prices. He said the durians are sourced from Pahang and Johor, which currently have a surplus.
“This year, durian yields are especially high in Perak, Johor and Pahang. Durian from Terengganu is still limited for now, maybe in another week or two. This year everyone can enjoy durian to their heart’s content. Even Grade A Musang King can now be obtained for as little as RM10 per kg,” he said. - FMT
