Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has asked Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar to order the Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT) to check for proof that a defective Jalur Gemilang had its crescent and star symbols missing due to an accident.
The request last night came after prodding from DAP MP RSN Rayer regarding Umno Youth’s silence regarding the incident in Terengganu.
Akmal’s tone in making his request towards his new “Malay unity” ally in Perikatan Nasional was notably calm and restrained.
It was a sharp contrast compared to his usual fire and brimstone approach to perceived slights and wrongdoing.

In the Terengganu incident at Dataran Batu Buruk, a video circulated showing the flag with its missing crescent and star.
However, Samsuri later clarified that this was an accident, while MBKT mayor Lizan Che Mat said the Jalur Gemilang in question had the crescent and star symbols, but they were stitched on and had come loose due to the strong coastal winds.
The flag has since been replaced.
Akmal, in his video on Monday night, asked MBKT to prove that the symbols had originally been stitched on, saying there would be stitch marks if this were the case.
“If there are, then the people can know which (version of events) is right or wrong.
“If there aren’t (stitch marks), then I ask the menteri besar to take severe action against the person who hoisted the flag if they knew it did not have the crescent and star symbols,” he said.
He then went on a tangent about a Penang flag gaffe last year, in which a trader momentarily hoisted an upside-down Jalur Gemilang, which the Umno leader insisted was intentional despite the trader claiming it was a mistake.
Akmal faces a criminal charge of threatening public order over a demonstration outside the trader’s shop last year. - Mkini
