Shouts of 'sakau', 'tangguh' but special parliamentary sitting goes on

KUALA LUMPUR: The special parliamentary sitting on the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report regarding Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will continue despite protests from opposition lawmakers and calls for a postponement over the prime minister's absence.

The sitting got off to a fiery start, with Perikatan Nasional chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan requesting a postponement as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was unable to attend.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, has been hospitalised.

After Takiyuddin spoke, other opposition members of parliament joined in, with shouts of "sakau" and "tangguh" ringing out in the House.

"Sakau" means to steal money, while "tangguh" means to postpone.

However, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul ruled that the sitting would continue, noting that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was present.

Opposition MPs later walked out of the Dewan Rakyat in protest. - NST
