Over 4,200 DAP delegates will cast ballots on Aug 16 to determine whether the party should remain in the federal government until the end of its term.
DAP national organising secretary Khoo Poay Tiong said the polling process would be held during the party’s annual conference, which will be held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
According to him, a motion on the matter would be brought by party secretary-general Anthony Loke on behalf of the DAP central executive committee (CEC).
“This conference is going to be in the spotlight because the CEC will propose a motion that says ‘the conference resolves whether DAP should remain in the federal government until the end of the current parliamentary term’.
“We will leave it to all the delegates present to decide whether we should remain in the government or exit it. This voting process will not be using a voice vote or by raising hands.
“Instead, every delegate will get a ballot paper. They can cast their vote in secret without any fear,” Khoo told a press conference at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
Khoo said a debate session will be held after Loke proposes the motion, and the party hopes to get representatives from each state to participate.
Determining party’s future direction
The Kota Melaka MP said there are 4,264 delegates from 1,704 DAP branches who are eligible to participate in this year’s congress.
He urged all of them to attend the event as it is “very important” and would determine DAP’s direction.
The annual congress was initially planned for July 12 but was postponed to allow the party to focus on the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections. - Mkini
