KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition MPs staged a walkout from the Dewan Rakyat today after the Speaker rejected their call to postpone the special sitting on the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji until Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim returns to Parliament.
The opposition voiced its disagreement that Anwar was unable to attend as he was receiving health treatment.
The walkout took place as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar began explaining the RCI report.
Opposition chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan then interjected, declaring: "We will not follow with this debate," before opposition lawmakers walked out of the Dewan Rakyat.
Earlier, Takiyuddin called for the special Dewan Rakyat sitting to be postponed until Anwar returns to Parliament.
Takiyuddin said Anwar's presence was important to provide a comprehensive explanation on the report, particularly as the prime minister himself had previously raised the matter. - NST
