Residents seeing red over 'burger container' blocking Sri Hartamas walkway

KUALA LUMPUR: A shipping container converted into a burger shop and placed on a public pedestrian walkway in Sri Hartamas has triggered anger among residents, who are urging Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to intervene over safety concerns.

The issue was brought to light by Threads user @sulz85, who highlighted that the newly placed structure occupies a significant portion of the walkway, forcing pedestrians to walk around it.

"Malaysians & Sri Hartamas residents - Can we talk about this? This structure has recently appeared along a walking path in a residential area of Sri Hartamas," the post read.

"As you can see, it occupies a significant portion of the pedestrian pathway and forces people walking through the area to navigate around it."

Sulz85 said the obstruction posed a direct hazard to vulnerable groups in the neighbourhood who frequently use the pedestrian route.

"This area has lots of elderly, children and people with dogs walking along here.

"What is especially concerning is that DBKL had already placed a notice tape on the structure requiring it to be removed within 14 days.

"The notice and tape subsequently appeared to have been removed later that same day."

The matter has been tagged and directed to DBKL for immediate inspection, clarification on licensing and enforcement action under public space regulations.

Threads user oldboyterryt said: "This is an eyesore. I live here and I hate this so much!!!"

Another user, snowyowl7, said: "Boycott this business until it replants itself on a proper commercial lot and not on common public space, ie, the sidewalk where it is now."

User whichiwu said: "This is a residential zone for goodness sake, why are these illegal commercial eyesores permitted by DBKL to run their businesses in our Taman? The rojak trucks and nasi campur stalls were not enough, now a giant container pulak. More and more will come if we let this slide. We'll only be welcoming even more jams, rats, traffic hazards, etc. Seriously, boycotting this business if they ever get to launch." - NST
