PETALING JAYA:
Police are investigating possible harassment linked to the death of a 14-year-old secondary schoolgirl in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, last week.

City police chief Fadil Marsus said the girl was rushed to Hospital Kuala Lumpur after her mother made a distress call at about 2am on Aug 18 upon finding her daughter in her room at their home in Jalan Langkawi.

He said the teenager subsequently died while receiving treatment at about 2.25am, and a post-mortem was carried out to confirm the cause of death.

Fadil said a criminal investigation was opened after police received a report from the girl’s mother on Aug 19. “A total of 92 witness statements have been recorded to assist in the investigation,” he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated for threatening, abusive or insulting conduct intended to cause harassment, distress, fear or alarm. The offence carries a maximum penalty of three years’ jail, a fine, or both.

Earlier this week, the education ministry ordered the school and education officials to speed up an investigation into the death of a 14-year-old girl who died after allegedly being bullied at school.

The girl’s death has prompted calls for an investigation from several quarters, including PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim. - FMT
