Wheelchair user waiting for crowded station lift sparks online discussion

KUALA LUMPUR: A photograph of a wheelchair user waiting to board a crowded lift at a train station has gone viral on social media.

The image, shared on Threads by user @ari.yeo8, shows the man in front of a lift on Level G, with several passengers inside and apparently no space for him to enter.

The post has received more than 41,000 likes, over 5,800 reposts and more than 3,100 comments.

In the caption, @ari.yeo8 wrote: "How rude, That uncle arrived first."

Several commenters said lifts at transit stations should be prioritised for people with mobility needs, including people with disabilities, the elderly and parents with strollers.

"Lifts at stations are a necessity for people with disabilities, the elderly, and parents with strollers, if you are fit, please use the escalators," one user commented.

The post has prompted discussion among social media users about access to lifts at transit stations for people with mobility needs. - NST
