Beijing hails Anwar’s one-China remarks

KUALA LUMPUR:

China tonight praised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his stance on the one-China principle.

“China commends Malaysian PM @anwaribrahim’s remarks on the Taiwan question and his steadfast position on the one-China principle.

“Nothing will stop China from being reunified,” China’s foreign affairs ministry said on X.

It said the international community’s commitment to the one-China principle is not to be shaken.

Responding to Anwar’s comments on Taiwan, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian said upholding the one-China principle reflects popular sentiment and stands on the side of what is right.

There is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory,” Lin said, adding that China’s reunification is an unstoppable historical trend, Xinhua reported.

Anwar, in a recent interview with Al Jazeera, said he sees Taiwan as part of China. “It is one China. It is accepted by all,” he said. - FMT
