E-hailing driver remanded 7 days after lottery shop assistant set ablaze

Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus says the suspect does not have a criminal record.

Police seized several items, including a bottle containing a liquid suspected to be petrol, a motorcycle, crash helmet and a shirt following the incident outside a lottery outlet.
PETALING JAYA:
A 59-year-old e-hailing driver suspected of dousing a lottery shop assistant with petrol and setting her on fire has been remanded for seven days until Aug 25.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said police seized several items, including a bottle containing a liquid suspected to be petrol, a motorcycle, a helmet and a shirt.

The case is being investigated for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

Earlier, Fadil said the incident could have stemmed from dissatisfaction with the lottery numbers the suspect had received from the 62-year-old woman.

He also said the suspect and the woman knew each other though they were not close acquaintances.

The victim was set alight outside a lottery shop on Aug 9 after being doused with what police believed to be petrol. She suffered burns to about 50% of her body.

She has been placed in an induced coma for further treatment.

Fadil also said the suspect did not have a criminal record. - FMT
