The developer behind a proposed data centre in Kota Damansara has withdrawn its planning permission application to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), effectively putting the project on hold, said Sungai Buloh MP R Ramanan today.
Bernama reported Ramanan as saying he received the latest update from MBPJ.
“From the start, my position has been clear. I am not against development or investment. But for large-scale projects that could affect the residents’ lives, the people must have a say.
“When they raise legitimate concerns, it is my responsibility as their elected representative to bring their voices to the authorities. We cannot compromise when it comes to the welfare of the people,” he said.
On July 17, Ramanan reportedly said the proposed data centre would be brought to the cabinet for discussion following concerns from residents.
He also formally objected to the proposal in a July 15 letter to then-Petaling Jaya mayor Zahri Samingon, saying he had yet to receive an official response.
Zahri was replaced by Yazid Sairi, who officially began his duties as the new mayor on Aug 3.

Opposition to the project escalated on July 27 when residents submitted a memorandum to MBPJ urging it to delay the development over environmental and community concerns.
The memorandum, addressed to Zahri, was submitted by Kota Damansara assemblyperson Izuan Kasim alongside residents, local councillors, and Ramanan.
Izuan said the objection was not limited to residents living closest to the proposed site, but reflected wider community concerns.
Following the submission, Izuan said MBPJ informed the group that the proposal was still undergoing the statutory objection process.
Residents also criticised MBPJ’s public notification process, claiming many households were unaware of the proposal until the objection period was nearly over.
However, MBPJ told StarMetro that it had extended the public consultation period from July 21 to 27 after errors were found on the original notice board. - Mkini
