Cops have recorded Hadi's statement over anti-DAP writings, aide says

Police have recorded a statement from Abdul Hadi Awang over the PAS president’s recent writings concerning the DAP.

When contacted by Malaysiakini, Hadi’s aide Syahir Sulaiman said the Marang MP had given his statement to the police in Kuala Lumpur, but he declined to specify which article Hadi was questioned over.

Earlier, Syahir took to social media to state that police took Hadi's statement following several reports lodged over the latter's writings, which allegedly offended DAP.

“On this issue, the PAS president always gives his full cooperation and in fact says that he is willing to be tried in court if he is charged,” the Bachok MP said.

Over recent weeks, Hadi had used his “Minda Presiden” column in Harakahdaily to criticise DAP, a party he described as continuing the “colonial legacy of marginalising Malays and Islam”.

Hadi had also criticised Malaysiakini, describing the media outlet as a supporter of DAP and helping propagate the party’s “deviant teachings” (ajaran sesat) of secularism.

Four Malay DAP leaders have criticised Hadi over his statements, accusing him of sowing hatred and questioning why PAS had worked with DAP in the past.

‘Voters reject DAP’

On that note, Syahir dismissed DAP’s criticisms towards Hadi and PAS, saying that the two parties have long feuded.

“What is clear is that the DAP is being judged by voters and rejected in Sabah, sidelined in Johor and crippled in Negeri Sembilan,” he said, referring to the string of electoral defeats DAP suffered in recent state elections.

Syahir also said DAP would suffer the same fate in the upcoming Malacca and Sarawak elections.

“DAP can only be saved through the votes of its delegates while the results at the ballot box show otherwise.”

On Aug 16, DAP delegates had voted to stay in the coalition government despite the party suffering a series of electoral setbacks. - Mkini
