12 charged over gang brawls in Shah Alam, 10 still sought

 Selangor police say turf wars and misunderstandings led to two separate violent clashes in Taman Alam Megah and Sri Muda.

State police chief Shazeli Kahar said the fatal clash stemmed from a turf war while the slashing incident resulted from a misunderstanding.

Twelve men have been charged following two separate gang-related brawls in Shah Alam that left one dead and another severely injured, Selangor police said today.

Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said the suspects, aged between 23 and 46, were arrested in an operation conducted across Selangor and Johor between Aug 14 and Aug 28. Police are still hunting for 10 more suspects, he said.

Of the 12, eight were charged with murder, while four others were charged with rioting with weapons following a slashing incident in Sri Muda.

“Some suspects were released due to insufficient evidence,” Shazeli told a press conference here.

He said that while the two incidents were unrelated, both were linked to gangsterism. The fatal clash stemmed from a turf war while the slashing incident resulted from a misunderstanding.

In the Aug 25 Taman Alam Megah case, a 23-year-old man was slashed before being hit by a car, resulting in his death. Eight men, including two brothers, were charged with murder on Sept 4.

In the Aug 13 Sri Muda case, a 38-year-old man was badly injured after being slashed near a petrol station by several men. An imitation pistol was also used in the incident.

Police are searching for seven suspects linked to the murder and three tied to the Sri Muda assault. - FMT
