Cops probe Hadi under Penal Code, MCMC Act

 Bukit Aman says it has received 12 police reports and recorded statements from 12 witnesses over the allegation.

Bukit Aman CID director M Kumar said the case involving PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang will be investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements that may cause public alarm, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for network abuse.

Police will record PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement over his claim the US had offered to work with the Islamic party to bring down the Barisan Nasional government in 2014.

Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar said Hadi would be called in soon.

He said police had received 12 reports so far over the allegation and recorded statements from 12 witnesses.

The case is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements that may cause public alarm, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for network abuse.

“The public has been urged not to speculate in any way that could interfere with the investigation,” Kumar said.

Hadi had claimed at PAS’s 72nd annual muktamar in Kelantan on Sunday the party was offered assistance by the US embassy to topple the BN government in 2014, during former president Barack Obama’s visit to Malaysia in the same year.

He said then-PAS assistant secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who was Hadi’s political secretary at the time, went to the embassy for the meeting.

However, Takiyuddin and Samsuri were not swayed by the offer and remained firm in rejecting it, he said.

The US embassy has since denied Hadi’s claim, stressing that the US had never sought to decide Malaysia’s political leadership. - FMT
