PETALING JAYA:
A man suspected to be linked to alleged abuse of power involving the appointment of a developer for a Kuala Lumpur project and the sale of Felda land has been remanded for three days to assist in investigations.

According to a source, magistrate Ezrene Zakaria ordered the man in his 50s, who is receiving treatment at Putrajaya Hospital for health issues, to be remanded until Sept 9 following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman confirmed the remand order when contacted and said the case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.

Earlier today, a former Felda general manager, who holds a “Datuk” title, was remanded for five days to assist in the investigation.

The two men were arrested yesterday at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, where they had gone to give their statements.

The arrests came weeks after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government would look into Felda’s problems following the release of a royal commission of inquiry report into Tabung Haji (TH).

He said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim had stressed that investigations into statutory bodies should not stop at TH.

Last week, MACC opened seven investigation papers into alleged irregularities, abuse of power and corruption involving Felda and its subsidiary, Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd. - FMT
