6 missing hikers in Kelantan-Perak forests found safe

 Police have contacted one of the mountain guides with the group and will send in rescuers.

PETALING JAYA:

Six people, including four members of a family, who joined a hike in the forests between Kelantan and Perak, have been confirmed safe after being reported missing.

Gerik police chief Abdul Samad Othman said police managed to contact one of the mountain guides in the group.

“All the hikers are safe and we will begin the rescue operation,” he was quoted as saying by Buletin TV3 today, adding that rescuers would reach the hikers by helicopter.

Yesterday, Gua Musang police said four members of a family and two mountain guides entered the forest through Pos Dakoh in Lojing on Aug 29 and had not left through Pos Kemar, Perak, as scheduled on Sept 3.

Gua Musang police chief Sik Choon Foo said the hikers’ relatives lodged a police report in Selangor yesterday after they failed to return from their hike on the set date. - FMT
