3 Sarawak areas record very unhealthy API readings

 


KUALA LUMPUR: Three areas in Sarawak recorded very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 6pm today.

Data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal showed Serian recording the highest reading at 266, followed by Samarahan (238) and Kuching (203).

Meanwhile, 37 areas nationwide recorded unhealthy API readings, ranging from 106 to 196.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of areas with unhealthy air quality, with Sarikei recording a reading of 196, followed by Sri Aman (194), Sibu (183), Mukah (179), Samalaju (175), ILP Miri and Miri (167 each), Bintulu (166) and Limbang (141).

In Selangor, Johan Setia recorded an API reading of 187, followed by Shah Alam (166), Klang (159), Banting (158), Kuala Selangor (157) and Petaling Jaya (156).

Perak recorded unhealthy readings in Seri Manjung (165), Tasek Ipoh (163), Tanjung Malim (160), Pegoh Ipoh (155) and Taiping (152).

Nilai (162), Seremban (160) and Port Dickson (120) in Negri Sembilan also recorded unhealthy air quality.

Putrajaya recorded an API reading of 160, while Batu Muda (158) and Cheras (156) in Kuala Lumpur were also at unhealthy levels.

In Sabah, Politeknik Kota Kinabalu recorded a reading of 155, followed by Kota Kinabalu (152) and Kimanis (150).

Johor recorded unhealthy readings in Segamat (155), Batu Pahat (153), Tangkak (151) and Kluang (108).

Meanwhile, Bukit Rambai (155), Alor Gajah (153) and Bandaraya Melaka (106) in Melaka, as well as Labuan (154), also recorded unhealthy air quality.

A total of 26 areas recorded moderate API readings, while Langkawi, Kedah (49), and Kangar, Perlis (45), recorded good air quality.

An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous. - NST
